Bajor

The overview here of Bajor is going to cover the basics; if you want more info, Memory Alpha's got a great overview.

Bajor is a 3 hour trip down from the station, and it's a great place for your character to go if they want a little time off station. (Of course, there's always Risa, but that's a bit farther).

The planet is separated into provinces, each of which has a capital. The above picture is of Dahkur's capital. There's a variety of different climates on the planet, from deserts to jungles to farmland to rocky mountains, so you've got your options there.

Bajorans are a humanoid species which are known by their telltale nose ridges and the chained earrings that almost any Bajoran will wear at all times. Formerly a society heavily structured by caste, they have since given up the system and Bajorans are now free to pursue the careers of their choice though some older Bajorans who remember a time before the Occupation still hold caste-related prejudices and lament this change.

Currently in the midst of recovering from the Cardassian Occupation, there is a heavy prejudice against the Cardassians within the populace though that relationship is healing especially after the events of the Dominion War. That said, the planet is still healing from some of the ecological and financial destruction of the Occupation, which has ruined some of the better farming areas.

Bajoran Spirituality
Key to the Bajorans is their faith, which involves the worship of the Prophets, beings who are thought to inhabit the wormhole, which they refer to as the Celestial Temple. Bajorans look to their spiritual leaders, known as vedeks, for guidance and wisdom and the leader of the Bajoran religion, known as the Kai, has a heavy influence on the affairs of the government.

Their holy relics, known as the 'Tears of the Prophets' come from the Prophets, beings from the wormhole who have been proven quite firmly to exist. These orbs defy scientific explanation and can provide visions and experiences to those for whom the Prophets wish to grant them. Everything that happens is the will of the Prophets, according to a Bajoran.

One of the most important events that the Bajorans have experienced in recent history is the arrival of the Emissary, one Benjamin Sisko of the Federation. He played a pivotal role in the Dominion War and in the survival of Bajor during said conflict.

Because of the Emissary's works, those who have come from the wormhole for the game (ie, YOU) have been deemed 'Envoys of the Prophets', people who have been brought to Bajor for an unknown purpose for the betterment of Bajor. Unprophesied, Envoys are still considered to be a gift of the Prophets and as such, most Bajorans will gladly help an Envoy. That said, as they are unprophesied, some Bajorans are less thrilled with them but they are in the minority.

[spoilers for DS9 in the linked entries, especially that of the Emissary]
